Home Health Productivity Points Calculator

Many home health agencies measure therapists in weighted visit points instead of minutes. Enter your agency’s point values, your weekly target, and the visits you’ve done and still have scheduled. The calculator shows where you’ll land and how many routine visits close any gap.

How points work

Each visit type is worth a number of points. Longer, documentation-heavy visits like evaluations are usually worth more than routine treatment visits. You’re measured against a weekly point target.

Example weights only. Replace them with your agency’s real values:

Visit typeExample points
Routine visit1.0
Evaluation / start of care2.0
Re-evaluation / recertification1.5
Resumption of care1.5
Discharge visit1.5

There are no national standard point values. Agencies set their own, and they vary.

Worked example (using the example weights)

Weekly target: 28 points. It’s Wednesday evening with 2 workdays left.

Visit typeDoneScheduledPoints
Routine (1.0)11617
Evaluation (2.0)114
Recertification (1.5)113
Discharge (1.5)101.5
Total25.5
  • Points done: 11 + 2 + 1.5 + 1.5 = 16
  • Points scheduled: 6 + 2 + 1.5 = 9.5
  • Projected: 25.5 of 28, so 2.5 points short
  • Routine visits to close the gap: 2.5 ÷ 1.0 = 3 (rounded up), or 1.25 points per remaining day
Progress bar toward a 28-point weekly target: 16 points done, 9.5 points scheduled, 2.5 points short, about 3 routine visits needed
Weekly points: done, scheduled and still needed

Tips for hitting weekly points

  • Front-load high-point visits early in the week so a Friday cancellation doesn’t sink you
  • Update scheduled counts as soon as a visit cancels
  • Ask how missed visits are handled. Some agencies count an attempted visit; many don’t.
  • Get the point schedule in writing, especially when comparing job offers

APTA’s 2016–2017 practice survey found a median of 28 visits per week for home care PTs, a useful sense check if your agency’s point target converts roughly to visits.
